Sixth Form Open Evening: October 2024

See what we offer.

We were delighted to welcome almost 400 visitors to our Sixth Form Open Evening in October.

Prospective students were able to talk to subject teachers and current Sixth Formers for all our 28 subjects, both  academic and vocational, as well as visit stalls and hear talks from Durham and Oxford University and a highly-anticipated local apprenticeship provider.

Future psychologists were faced with Lego challenges, and Criminology students got to investigate a realistic crime-scene. Sample-sized food from the Sixth Form cafe was served, and our own musicians kept the crowd buzzing.  Lots of families were delighted to hear about our generous bursary for students with a household income of £40,000 and under, which is paid directly into the account of the student and covers a bus pass, clothing, lunch, stationery, books and a laptop for each young person.

Pupils were thrilled to hear about the extra-curricular opportunities we offer, from Duke of Edinburgh at the highest level, to volunteering in Lourdes, the John Paul II Award and Operation Wallacea, the charity conservation project which heads to Mexico next summer.  Students even got to pet some of the creatures they will be working to  save, with giant snakes, chinchillas, tarantulas and scorpions bringing the rainforest to life.

St Leonard’s pupils are now beginning our exciting programme of Options Guidance and Transition Events (see below for our upcoming calendar).  For prospective students from other schools keen to learn more about our Sixth Form, personal tours can be arranged using the contact form, and all students will be welcomed at our Transition Day in July for a taste of their chosen subjects and Sixth Form Life.
