Super Curricular

Intellectual curiosity to widen your mind and broaden your horizons

A core value of our Sixth Form is intellectual curiosity. Teaching staff set the tone here, discussing ideas they are passionate about and want to share, in order to make our students cultured and civilised members of society.

Not only do we embrace the concept of learning for its own sake, but for more utilitarian purposes this interest in the subject beyond the curriculum is what makes students more rounded, more aware of the world beyond their horizons and therefore more attractive as candidates for university, apprenticeship and employment.

For this purpose, teaching staff compile reading lists for each subject which are shared with students and there is a general Sixth Form reading list of non-specialist popular science and social science, history, philosophy, biography and literary fiction.  Each subject provides super-curricular reading materials in the Sixth Form library and students may also use the University library.

The EPQ and Online Learning Module complement this and students are encouraged to take a lead in enrichment in matters of current affairs or engage in topical debate in form time. In this way, our sixth formers with their portfolio of qualifications, skills and experiences, should stand head and shoulders above the crowd.
