Transition from Year 11
Making BTEC and A level choices.
As well as Open Evening on the 9th October, we also host a number of evening events for families with an interest in specialist areas, such as those wishing to explore careers in Law, the NHS, or considering applying to the most competitive universities like Oxford and Cambridge. Our popular Teachers’ Tea allows parents and carers as well as students to have in depth-chat with a number of teachers around the afternoon tea-table, discussing their subject choices as well as getting to know each other. Meanwhile in the school day, taster mornings are themed around futures that engage students and young people the most, from Voices from the Past to Cybersecurity, Sports Physiotherapy to Psychology and Forensics. All potential Sixth Formers from any school are welcome to attend, and we normally have a significant number starting with us from other schools.
Our Transition day is held after GCSEs have finished, just before the Year 11 Prom. Students have the chance to have a taster of the A Level and BTEC subjects they are interested in, live a day in the life of a Sixth Former. We also provide students with extra support and reassurance about everything from locker keys to timetables. External speakers often come in to school to discuss academic and career options with our future Sixth Form students.
In their feedback, every student who attended has said that they had enjoyed the day hugely, and there were some lovely comments:
“Had a really great time! Loving the social and academic sides of Sixth Form life, with brilliant support from teachers“
“Very useful to help understand what sixth form life will feel like“
“It was a great experience and makes me feel more confident about sixth form – thank you!“
“10/10 – will definitely be attending St Leonard’s. I have thoroughly enjoyed the sessions, so I wanted to first of all say thank you for organising as they have made me feel welcomed to the school and they are such an amazing, kind thing to do.“

It is a pleasure to share with you the outcome of our recent Catholic School Inspection. It is a credit to the entire community – families, pupils, staff and our parishes – to be graded ‘Outstanding across all areas’. You can read the report here and an accompanying letter from Mr Simmons here.
