Year 11 Bridging

Making BTEC and A level choices.

Bridging Week is a week that takes place every year, after the GCSE and A Level exams have finished, to help Year 11s with their transition to St Leonard’s Sixth Form.

During the week, students have the chance to have a taster of the A Level and BTEC subjects they are interested in and also have the opportunity to listen to all of the help and support available to them in planning and preparing for the choices available after leaving Sixth Form. External speakers often come in to school to discuss academic and career options with our future Sixth Form students.

In the evaluation that students have been asked to complete in the past, every student who attended has said that they had enjoyed Bridging Week and there were some lovely comments about the week as well:

Had a really great time! Loving the social and academic sides of Sixth Form life, with brilliant support from teachers.

Very useful to help understand what sixth form life will feel like.

It was a great experience and makes me feel more confident about sixth form – thank you!

10/10 – will definitely be attending St Leonard’s.

Very useful to help understand what sixth form life will feel like.

Bridging Week is not just for current St Leonard’s students but for those joining us from other establishments as well. Again, feedback from external applicants has always been very positive:

I have thoroughly enjoyed the bridging sessions, so I wanted to first of all say thank you for organising as they have made me feel welcomed to the school and they are such an amazing, kind thing to do.

A letter is sent out before the end of term to all students who apply to our Sixth Form inviting them to an interview on GCSE results day, from 10.30am onwards. There is the opportunity to have this interview in school, or on Teams. If students are away on results day or if you have any other questions, please use the Contact Us section of the website to get in touch.
