Personal Development
The Personal Development curriculum at St Leonard’s.
Overview: In order to develop pupils at St Leonard’s to pursue excellence in all and for all, pupils must receive a high-quality curriculum for their holistic development, which promotes their spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical development. Within this programme of study pupils will explore their life beyond St Leonard’s, health and wellbeing, their ability to develop relationships, their British Values and diversity and equality. Essentially, the purpose of PSHE at St Leonard’s leaves our pupils well-equipped to make well founded decisions for themselves, make meaningful contributions to society and the ability to navigate life in modern day Britain.
Please find below an overview of our Half Term 1 Holistic Curriculum.
Relationships & Sex Education: The purpose of the RSE programme at St Leonard’s Catholic Academy is to educate our pupils on how to build healthy relationships, whether that be with peers, families, friends, or romantic partners. St Leonard’s provides a safe, balanced, and respectful environment for pupils to explore and debate ideas about relationships. Having a network of healthy relationships significantly boosts pupils’ mental health and wellbeing.
Careers: In addition to this, pupils should receive access to an inspiring careers programme which raises pupil aspirations, creates a clear and tangible path for exciting and ambitious careers, and motivates pupils to succeed in school. It is both a legal and moral obligation to ensure that our pupils are clearly informed about their future options. It is crucial that we equip our pupils with the skills, knowledge and confidence to succeed in life beyond St Leonard’s Catholic School.
Virtues & Catholic Life: The PSHE framework develops key virtues in our pupils and their awareness of how they can put faith into action through studying and facilitating a broad range of prayer styles. Pupils study experts to understand the theory and intent behind how and why we pray, creating deep and meaningful relationships with God and our wider Catholic community. Pupils are exposed to opportunities where their faith can be strengthened through retreat and Catholic Social Teaching.
