Travelling to St Leonard’s

Durham County Council Contract Buses

These are arranged by DCC and drop off and collect directly on the school site.  Some pupils may be eligible for a free bus pass.  More details can be found here Home to school travel assistance for secondary school children – Durham County Council

SL09/11 – The school also offers a direct service from Chester-le-Street, and outlying villages.  There is a charge for this service which costs £3.90 per day and is purchased via an annual pass which can be paid monthly.  For more information and to apply please visit Apply for a concessionary seat on school transport – Durham County Council.

Public Transport

We encourage pupils to use public transport, where possible, as it eases congestion around the school site. The school is located only a short distance from Durham Bus Station and Train Station and this provides a sustainable way of travelling. More information on Buses and trains – Durham County Council

Walking to School

Walking has many great benefits for pupils and the environment and many of our pupils live close enough to enjoy a leisurely walk to school.  Where this is not possible, pupils could try being dropped off a little further away or perhaps get off the public bus a stop earlier to allow them to incorporate more exercise in their day.

Cycling to School

Cycling is a great way to improve health and fitness as well as reducing our carbon footprint.  Currently we do not have any cycle racks in school but are happy to find safe and secure places to store bikes until cycle racks are available in the new school.  We encourage pupils to wear helmets.

Drop-Offs and Pick-Ups

For health and safety reasons, parents are unable to drop-off and pick up on the school grounds.  For any pupils with medical issues that need support, please contact the school office.  Families are asked to plan their journey in order to find a safe and suitable place to drop off.  Please also be considerate of our neighbours by not blocking streets or driveways.
