An Outstanding Results Day

A post in our latest news section.

We are thrilled for our Sixth Form students and their families who have taken home outstanding results in their A-Levels and BTECS,  with 34% of all grades at  A*/A, and 83% of all grades awarded at A*-C, and 99.4% of students passing all papers. 17% of students achieved entirely grades A*/A, securing places at top universities and competitive apprenticeship programmes such as accounting and pharmacy apprenticeships. We appreciate the collaboration of our supportive parents as well: these grades are a product of the team behind each student, as well as the hard work and focus of our young people.

St Leonard’s Sixth Form continues to lead in the North East with Oxbridge admissions, with 5 students accepting a place at Oxford and Cambridge, and 66% of students are moving on to a Russell Group University, including 8 to Durham, the world-class university on our doorstep.  Outside the Russell Group, our students have accepted places at specialist and elite institutions such as  the Leeds Conservatoire and the Glasgow School of Art.  What matters most to us is that every student moves on to the place that is the best fit for them, as an individual, whether their priority is teaching excellence, exciting course-content or a safe campus in which they will thrive.

With a huge 17% of students achieved entirely grades A*/A, and as well as securing places at top universities, they are ready to launch themselves on competitive apprenticeship programmes such as accounting and pharmacy. We have some great examples of success in both academic and vocational subjects, for instance:

  • Marcell achieved 4 A*s and will study Computer Science at Cambridge University, Gonville and Caius College.
  • Lewis goes with 4 A* to read computer Science at Durham University.
  • Zac also earned 4 A* and will study Engineering at Cambridge University, Fitzwilliam college.
  • Dominic with grades of  A*AA will read Modern Languages at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge
  • Nikitta achieved triple Distinction* and will start work with a job in Early Years.
  • Anna achieved 3A* and will study at Merton College, Oxford reading History and French.
  • Ruaridh with A*A*A*A will read History at Wadham College, Oxford.
  • Josie with 3 Distinction* in her vocational course  will study Midwifery at Leeds University
  • Louis, Rafaella, and Senomi will take their excellent grades to study medicine at Sunderland and Newcastle Medical schools.
  • Sisters Rachel and Charlotte combined vocational and academic studies, both gaining distinctions in Health and Social Care (BTEC) alongside impressive A Level results.
  • Rachel is heading to Sunderland University to train as a paramedic and Charlotte, is en route to York St John University for Psychology and Childhood Development,

We are incredibly proud of every student: it has been a pleasure to support such a hard-working group of young people, who leave us not only with fantastic results but with the values and confidence to succeed beyond school.
