Year 6 Open Evening
Our new school building
Welcome: We would like to invite all interested families and pupils to join us for our Open Evening on Thursday 24th September 2026. Doors open at 5:30pm and there are two opportunities to hear the Headteacher presentation, one at 6pm and a further opportunity at 7pm. The full school building will be open and families are very welcome to tour our new school building to see our facilities and to meet our amazing pupils.
Year 5 and Year 6: All families are welcome and we know that many parents with pupils in Year 5 also want to attend the Open Evening as they start to think about secondary schools: all Year 5 pupils and parents are equally welcome.
For Everyone: Catholic schools are here to serve the whole community. We are open to all pupils of all backgrounds. We have strong links with both our Catholic feeder primary schools and other primary schools in Durham City and in the villages around Durham.
Outstanding: In October 2024 Ofsted judged the school to be outstanding in all 5 areas of the school inspection. We feel the inspectors captured the essence of the school in the report ‘Pupils thrive in this academic and nurturing environment. Pupils’ warm, respectful relationships with staff set solid foundations for learning.’ You can read the full report here.
Academic excellence: We are the highest performing school in Durham City and for the last four years have been in the top 3 performing schools in the Northeast for both GCSE & A Level results and university entrance.
North East School of the Year 2026: St Leonard’s was named Northeast School of the Year by the Sunday Times in November 2025. Further details can be found here.
£71million: St Leonard’s is the first RAAC school in the country to be rebuilt, with over £71 million invested in our school. Our fabulous new building was opened in April 2026, and we love to welcome new families to our school.
We look forward to seeing you on Open Evening – all are welcome!

We moved into our new building in April 2026 and were delighted to welcome pupils back after the Easter break to the new St Leonard’s school building.
